Eblast Or Enewsletter, Or Both? What’s Best For Your Business?

Staying in touch with your audiences nurtures relationships and keeps you top of mind. Are you reaching out on a regular basis? Enewsletters and Eblasts are effective ways to remain in contact without being obtrusive. While different in format, they both provide useful information in a visually pleasing way — getting your message across without overloading your readers with content. Be sure to find just the right balance for your business.

The Evolution of Enewsletters

Historically, printed newsletters were cumbersome and expensive. They typically had many components and were mailed to customers. With the introduction of electronic communications, early Enewsletters became the preferred new way to reach audiences. However, the technique of assembling several elements remained the norm.  Over time, reader attention spans declined. According to a 2025 Samba Recovery study, the “average human attention span is only 8.25 seconds.” To put this into perspective, this is less than a goldfish, which has a 9-second attention span. Simply put, Enewsletters needed to evolve, with most marketing professionals trimming the number of components to optimize engagement.

Enewsletters Today

Present day Enewsletters still have a very important place in marketing strategies. However, effective Enewsletters now have only two to three components, delivering concise and digestible information. By offering your audience the choice to read an article, watch a video, or view a special offer, they can take in the information and format they are most interested in.  Multiple elements afford you the opportunity to engage them in one if not all of your content.

Eblasts

The little sibling of Enewsletters is often referred to as an Eblast. Readers receive a single-component format which is super non-intimidating and encourages the impulse to read now rather than later. Moreover, you can alternate Eblast content, publishing an article one week and featuring a video the next week, thereby increasing frequency, but not overwhelming your audience. Eblasts are nimble and easily read, especially on mobile devices, where most people consume information today.

Final Thoughts

Enewsletters and Eblasts are both great ways to stay top of mind with your audience. When they see a message from you in their inbox, make sure it’s of value or interest to them. Other firms might tell you that all communication is good marketing. We won’t. Effective communication is good marketing.
